Val Kilmer is In My Socks!
(and The Importance of an Excerpt!)

Recently I bumped into an excerpt of Val
Kilmer’s new Memoir ‘Val Kilmer-I’m Your
Huckleberry’ (Simon & Schuster 2020). I’ve
loved Mr. Kilmer for as long as I’ve been aware
of his films, all of them! And as much as I love
my Kindle there are just some books I have to
have the hardcover, this was one!
Assuming since the local bookstores are
temporarily only open for online sales, I figured
I’d order it from Amazon. I love Amazon as
well as all booksellers, big and small. As a
writer, I publish as well as purchase from
Amazon, and am thankful for it all.
Then this happened:
I was out looking for a book for my sister
(Cravings-Chrissy Teigen) of which again,
I had read an excerpt about her ‘Chicken Pot Pie
Soup’. I told my sister about it, and she asked
me to print the recipe, which I did. My plan was
to mail it to her, if I couldn’t find the books.
But of course being a booklover and a lover of
my sisters cooking, if I could run across the
actual book, that would be even better! ( I was
going to order it the same day I’d order Val
Kilmer.)
I hit the book section of one of the big box home
retail stores and I see the ‘Magnolia Table (Vol
2)-Joanna Gaines’, and told myself if that
edition had those ‘Silo cookies’ in it, I’d get that
for my sister in case I couldn’t run across the
Chrissy book. And LO and Behold as I’m
picking up the cookbook, I see, Val Kilmer,
smiling at me!
Wow, had to get it of course! My day had been
made! Got the Magnolia book as well.
Head to the other big box home store, and I’m
browsing the book section. I had already
checked online to see if the local store had her
book and no..but LO and behold, there it was!
And there was only one, and I knew it was
MINE!
I brought Val home and then I noticed it was an
autographed edition! I’m In Love!
So, it is with great pleasure that I take off my
Writers’ socks and put on my Booklover socks
and dive IN!
The moral of the story? If you are a writer,
excerpts sell books! I bought 3 yesterday due to
excerpts posted in cyberspace. And I bought the
hardcovers of all 3! And…! while Val Kilmer
and I play footsy with my socks, my sister will
be fixing me viddles from the 2 books I gave
her!
I love books, socks and Val Kilmer!
